Delirious.

I am still sick. Can you believe it? Imagine getting one of the actual diseases! I would be toast. My doctor, in her brilliant wisdom, called me after six hours of vomiting and said this, "I am going to prescribe something for the vomiting. I have to warn you though, don't be surprised if you wake up in the middle of the night with severe neck spasms. That is a side effect of the meds. Just take Benadryl and the symptoms will subside."

Uhm, WHAT!?! That is a prescription that was not picked up.

I am no longer throwing up, just achy, feverish and nauseous. While I recover, I thought I'd give you some links to some things that have moved me this week.

This broke my heart. It is beautifully written.

My Cousin made me proud. This is her commercial.

Evelyn made me laugh, but then made me want to kill her, as this song will not leave my head.

This
made me feel so many things.

I am looking forward to our new book club choices,

and to the day when I can drink something other than this,

After hours of whining, I am reminded of a picture I saw many months ago. It was taken by Carrie Teischer in Ethiopia...

Yea, think I'll stop complaining now.

I will, instead, remember how lucky I am to have health care, and what the real reason is for having these shots...

I feel better already.

  1. Okay, I'm going to go back and check out your links in a segundo, but as far as gorgonzola, don't take this as advice, but I'd just eat it anyway. I'm not exactly sane, but I'm not typhoidal either. Scary? errr....however, you may not want to eat it because the last thing you need right now is a bite of some congealing never-pasteurized mold.

Hope you feel better very, very soon.

  2. I read the piece in the NYT too the day it came out and for several minutes I was stuck. My brother and his wife lost their first toward the end of the pregnancy and this story was too familiar to me. So, couldn't bear to read it again here.

But, I did watch everything else - loved the Obama song and it made me feel stronger to face another day of economic chaos.

    Get completely better soon!

  4. Oh NO! Jules, How could you still be sick? I was just about to email you and then found your blog entry. Hey, how do I "follow" your blog. And, if I do, will I be notified when you update it?

  7. I hope you are feeling a little better by now. And yes, the reason for the shots makes it so worth it.
I am REALLY ready to read about those reasons!
    Thinking of you!

  8. Neck spasms??? Man, I hope you feel better VERY soon! You're right to put this into perspective, but still, it's miserable to be sick. I sure hope you don't have those neck spasms! And thank goodness for our health care!

  9. ugh - I'm so sorry you are still sick!! And what the hell was that doctor thinking prescribing something that will cause your neck to seize up in the night?!?! That's crazy talk.

    Get better soon!

  10. This line is haunting me: My first son is like the faintest scar on my skin now, nearly hidden. Over time, will the mark disappear as my skin becomes mottled and wrinkled?

    The montages are wonderful...

  14. I really hope you are better now and eating whatever you feel like eating. The first article rendered me somewhat emotionally numb and momentarily unable to identify/deal with my own feelings. Your cousin did a fabulous job in her commercial, which is an very cool commercial. The llama song was one of the strangest things I have seen in a while. Cried when Grace met Anna. I hate that it has been several days since I checked in and you are still so sick.
