Two Trips

I don't have any time today, and I am having computer issues, but I just wanted to send out a word of support to those families who are getting new hoops to jump through. I know as a woman firmly perched on the other side it is easy for me to say that it will be worth it, but...

It will be worth it.

  1. I love that photo of you on the plane! I know it will all be worth it in the end, and I think the changes are really good. It's just a bit of a shock for many, and one more thing that's just not in our control on this journey!

  2. Yes it will :) Thanks for "feeling our pain" but reassuring us that it will be okay.

  3. it is indeed a shock - the financial and logistical implications could be very dire indeed, but for us, well, we can't fall out of love with our ET adoption. We will figure it out.

  4. Thanks, Julie. I know you're right. It will be worth it. And a second trip to Ethiopia to meet your child(ren) earlier than expected certainly isn't the worst thing that could happen. I think it's just the shock and fear that comes with change that really gets to you. Couldn't they give us some notice and ease us into these things, for cripe's sake?! And is it too much to ask that they please stop focusing all their energy on these changes and get us a court date?? Sign...this too will pass...

  5. I agree. I mean, really. Can you imagine NOT having them? I know I can't my two precious ET girls.

  6. Here Here to that! Feelings their pain but can't wait to jump for joy with them when they too get to be on the other side! It is SOOOOOO worth it! I say to them, "Jump through those hoops...with rage or with grace...just jump." :)

  7. Can I add my two cents to yours? If Ethiopia had required two trips when I was still researching which country to adopt from, I may very well have ruled it out as a possibility...but, first of all, I can't imagine having anyone other than Elfe as my daughter, and second of all, I have thoughts of a second adoption in my head and I know that somehow I would make two trips work in order to adopt again from Ethiopia.

  9. After adopting two girls from Ethiopia, I can also agree it is all worth it in the end. Certainly this doesn't mean the process is easy.

  11. I am all for more over site, I am just dissapointed that this will now rule out Ethiopia as a viable option for international adoption due to the cost of a "two trip" country. If this had been the rule in 05-08 we would not have been able to adopt from Ethiopia. Unfortunately international adoption is already only a possibility for a very small percentage of people that wish they could adopt, another example of the wealthiest have the most options...
