And So it is Written...
It is truly trippy to see your name listed as someone's mother on a birth certificate. It is finally beginning to seem real.
Does anyone know how to say, "Don't worry, it'll be okay" in Tembarssa?
Today our best friends and our goddaughter arrive from Santa Fe to attend a party for these two children. My mom flies in from Wisconsin as well. The house will be full of some of my most favorite people.
These kiddos are already loved by so many.
We are tentatively leaving in FOURTEEN days.
I just threw up in my mouth a little.

No, you shouldn't be throwing up in your mouth a little...you should be peeing in your pants with excitement :D
ReplyDeleteOMG- leaving to pick up those beauties in just 2 weeks!!!! I so wish we were closer so we could be there to see you arrive home as a forever family!

OMG---I am just so excited for you. I have walked along this journey of yours just watching and waiting for the best news of your life and here it is. 14 days!!! WOOHOO!!! Enjoy your family of 4 as in 2 weeks you are a very beautiful family of 6. Not that you aren't a beautiful family of 4 butyou get my drift...
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful, wonderful day, shower, weekend, send-off. You & Steven so deserve this happiness. I can't wait to follow this next phase of your lives as parents and all that it will bring.

You know for having never met you...you sure do make me cry a lot. I am so excited for this new chapter of you being able to stand in the doorway with Steven and watch your two childrens' chests rise and fall under their brightly colored blankets. It's going to be so much fun!
ReplyDeleteOh! How awesome! I'd love to be a fly on the wall at your shower! Talk about a room full of a lot of love... keep us updated on all your travel arrangements. We'd better get a referral in the next two weeks or two of my favorite Ethiopian mommas (you and Christina) are going to be off the grid when we get the good news... that just won't do!
ReplyDeleteYay Julie, I hope you deeply enjoy your celebrations with your favorite people! Love to you and Steven as you embark on the most wonderful, beautiful time...
ReplyDeleteCindy
Love it, love it!
ReplyDeleteI remember the feeling too of seeing my name on a birth certificate (not my own). Weird and wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI love that you used "threw up in my mouth a little" to describe your current mood (and ALLLLLL that entails). That right there--that's why we love you :-)
ReplyDeleteSorry I missed the painting party (ok, not really :-) but can't wait for tomorrow!
hee hee about the throwing up in the mouth a little. you crack me up. yay for birth certificates! is it just me or are they getting cuter every minute of the day?
ReplyDeleteChristine
so, so close! it wasnt truly real to me until i had my son in my arms...everything before that was a blurr....
ReplyDeletefreaking amazing. that is just freaking amazing.
ReplyDeleteAh-Tah-Sehb (Don't worry). MiH-nim EYE-dehl (It's okay)
ReplyDeleteThese were on my cheat sheet index card that I took with us to Ethiopia. But I think I was so overcome/overwhelmed that I only busted the card out once or twice. Turo would say something in Amharic and point and we'd respond in English and point.
Okay, I just reread your post and realized that your request wasn't for Amharic. Any way... Enjoy the delight of the anticipation of these next few weeks.
ReplyDeleteI can't remember how to spell it, but phonetically is sounds like "Eye-zoe" for "It's all right." It's a more endearing way of comforting a child. I said it a lot when Z was in the hospital.
ReplyDeleteI think a calmness will settle over you as soon as you are with your children. When things are right, when we are stepping where we are supposed to step, the universe calms us...I think it's a "thank you" for listening to it. I am so happy for you both.
ReplyDeleteI almost spit pop out my nose when I read the last line on here:-) You crack me up...it is pretty crazy to see your name listed as Mommy isn't it!! I remember when I got mine...I about peed myself!!! YAY!!!! You are leaving....!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSeeing the birth certificate with our names as "father" and "mother" gave me chills! I'm so looking forward to seeing a family picture of all of you together!
ReplyDeleteYAY!!! Super super excited for you guys!!
ReplyDeleteThey will be used to the amharic 'aizo' for the boy and aizosh for the girl.
ReplyDeleteIt means 'it will be ok' or 'you are alright'.
Heather
I have chills reading this post. Not just "these children" but "MY children" (your children!)....smile. Happiness.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!!!!!!! I am so excited for you. Study up on your Amharic!

That is a super exciting piece of paper. Almost 2 years later and we still have it hanging on our fridge. It seems cemented in a way it hadn't when that comes through. So excited for you, and so very jealous.
ReplyDeleteOK the last was totally needed as I had instant tears at the first line and every one after that until the next to last line.
ReplyDeleteThanks for that. Thanks for taking me there and then bringing me back fast.
They are yours. And you and they are loved.
That's that.
AAAAAHHHHH!!! Soooo excited!!
ReplyDeleteHooray for birth certificates, and for countdowns!
ReplyDeleteAnd "ishi" (ee shee) is an excellent comfort word. :)
Wow! Two weeks! I haven't been following along closely enough lately...I'm so excited for you guys!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Zora - for having never met you, I sure am excited for you! I don't know whether to cry or bounce for ALL of you.
