Already?

Steven has given me a disconcerting 'Heads up"...

Meazi has been asking questions...

about...

Mating. Yep, MATING. She wants to know about bees mating. And other creatures.

He thinks we are getting very close to the Birds and the Bees talk with Meazi.

Sigh and Ugh.

Although I am tempted to just give her the book that explained everything to me (just kidding), I thought you guys might have some good book recommendations.

Remember, she is six, but she already has a favorite Shakespeare play (Twelfth Night- she thinks it's "hilarious").

Suggestions?

My brilliant 7 year old and her equally smart 5 year old brother LOVE this book. Really straightforward, covers EVERYTHING. Has a nice bit about how families are forme din all kind of ways. Highly recommend.

  3. “What’s the Big Secret,” is a good starter book about bodies, but doesn’t go into detail about conception. I also like Robie Harris’ books; the first in the series is “It’s Not the Stork!”, but depending on how much she already understands your oldest may be ready for “It’s So Amazing.” Although I’ve yet to read it, “From Diapers to Dating” is a parents' guide that comes highly recommended by a friend who teaches sex ed to parents of young children. (Be sure to google that last title with quotes around it, lest your looking to discover some, um, adult-oriented websites. :)

  4. Just for a laugh - my daughter goes to a Christian school and when she was in Kindergarten the music teacher decided to feature the song "The virgin Mary had a baby boy". Can you guess what happened? Yep, one morning at 3, my dear daughter crawls into my bed and asks, "Mommy, what is a virgin?" Not a question I really want to answer at 3 in the morning :)

  5. Have her talk to my son. He's allll about mating. Bugs, lions, birds of prey. The Discovery Life series has lots of interesting mating in it. http://dsc.discovery.com/tv/life/

Also, please tell me you've watched this: http://youtu.be/Ry-LwxR746s
    It's terribly important.

    xo.

  6. I love all the book recommendations. I have to say, though, that talking about our rooster and all his.....activity.....has laid the groundwork for more talks we have had. We people put so much on the idea of how babies are made when there is also just the natural facts. Which, really, kids are too young to understand at this age anyway. How bees and birds make babies is a good place to start.

  7. I was going to suggest the Robie Harris books, but other people got to them first. They are really wonderful books that show diverse people and families. My girls love them.

  8. Another vote for the fantastic Robie Harris! She has a brand new one out for even younger kids called /Who Has What?/ You could take 'em all out of the library and leave them lying around and see what comes up at the dinner table...

  12. My mom read "A Child is Born", a truly beautiful book, with me at various ages in answer to various questions. And now I read it with my kiddos. Supervised and with me as their guide, but it has been very helpful.
