The Snowy Day

One winter morning M and m woke up and looked out the window. Snow had fallen during the night. It covered everything as far as they could see...

Crunch, crunch, crunch, her feet sank into the snow. She walked with her toes pointing out, like this:

She walked with her toes pointing in, like that:

Little m thought it would be fun to join the big boys in their snowball fight, but he knew he wasn't old enough - not yet.

M made a smiling snowman,

and she made angels.

She picked up a handful of snow - and another, and still another. She packed it round and firm and put the snowball in her pocket for tomorrow.

She told her mother all about her adventures while she took off her wet socks.

Then they all had burritos in the backyard, and went down for a nap.

And you thought it never snowed in LA.

Apologies to Ezra Jack Keats.

  6. It's a good thing we love you and that your babes are so dang cute-- If we didn't, this is just the kind of thing that might really irk us midwestern types in January! ;-)

  8. LOL we have events just like that. My son LOVES those yearly events. This year we went back to Wa State and we awoke to see the real deal. He loved seeing snow for the 1st time.

It never snows here in FL

  9. I imagine that snow in L.A. is even more heavenly than Pinkberry in L.A.

We have that Keats book in Spanish...ah, a bola de nieve en el bolsillo.

Little Miss M is quite the delicate, darling snow angel. If she put me in her pocket, I'd totally melt.

  11. I would love snow if -no coats were needed, no gloves and after you were done playing you could eat burritos in the backyard!!! :) looks like a good time. you are welcome to come visit our backyard as it has WAY TO MUCH white stuff and no one playing out there!!!

  12. oh how I wish that was all the snow we had to deal with. I miss LA and playing outdoors year round. This Bostoner wants to take her kids on a walk outside without 30 minutes of dressing prep...

I think Mr Keats would love your rendition.

  13. What fun! I was totally confused at first and wondering why they weren't wearing more clothes (gasp, am I that kind of mother?). Such a joyful day, such a joy to see. Thanks :)

  14. Ha ha, I was wondering about the lacking of cold weather clothing too, at first. What fun!!

If you need more snow, let me know. I have plenty to spare.

  17. I am a Cal native turned Kansan. I was about to tell you that when you're in the snow, one must wear jackets. I understand, you're not used to snow. I had to be taught to. But then I realized, no, this is faux snow. But still, shouldn't they be wearing gloves?
