It is rude, insensitive and totally unnecessary. The online adoption community has become so preachy and smug that I can barely stand it anymore. I read blogs about how excruciating it was to wait for a whole year to adopt. My husband and I have been waiting four years with no end in sight. Thank you for still having some compassion and perspective. I was incredibly touched by the essay on Melese's attachment. It was wonderful to see the kids' pups! I love your talented way with words and how raw and open you are with your family's experiences. Melese is possibly the most gorgeous little boy I've ever seen.

When I watched this video, his big and frightened eyes affected me deeply. I can't explain the way I felt. I kept rewinding to the part where his eyes dart quickly to Steven and away again. The poor thing looked terrified and I can't really imagine what horrors he and his sister had to face during their time at the orphanage.

It is good to see them blossoming under your love and care. Be encouraged. :)

Oh and by the way, great decision on the "no tv" for the children!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7233227024562434538.post-74571045077021273942013-11-27T12:14:13.774-08:002013-11-27T12:14:13.774-08:00Wow, that was a great piece. You seem to rarely demand that your children be one way or another (an entirely human response) but even when you do, you see it, name it, call it out. You recognize your own need when that's what it is. You are AWESOME. Everyone should be grateful for a mom like you.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7233227024562434538.post-42849449641041047682013-11-20T06:25:52.065-08:002013-11-20T06:25:52.065-08:00Hey Erica, send me your e-mail address!Hey Erica, send me your e-mail address!Juliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13790711152511868938noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7233227024562434538.post-24284854908692566002013-11-18T06:37:32.839-08:002013-11-18T06:37:32.839-08:00Just want to also say, the sensitivity with which ...Just want to also say, the sensitivity with which you are raising your children is AMAZING (freedom hair, ethiopian language lessons, etc. etc.). I am considering adopting from Ethiopia but nothing is more important to me than that this is an ethical adoption and that this child TRULY has no one willing to care for him/her. But I don't know how to make sure of this? I don't know how to go about finding an agency or an orphanage where I can feel at least 99 percent certain that the children cannot be raised by a parent or close relative. It's such a labyrinthine process and there's so much that's hidden from view. I just wonder if you can recommend any person, any resource, any agency, any thing at all to help me figure this out. I know how to find an agency but I'm trying to find more certainty than that about the origins of these children. Thanks so much. Your children are gorgeous and your blog is delightful and helpful. If you feel like replying, you can reply to this comment here or if you prefer, I'll send you my email address. But either way, thank you for a the blog. I really struggled with some expectation that God was going to send down a bolt of lightning and let me know that this is my child. But that didn't happen. I think some people have those moments or those signs. But not everyone and I don't want to miss out on a little girl who could be my little girl because there wasn't a host of angels announcing her referral. I instead am going to have faith that she was brought to me for a reason and I have a calm assurance that I will get to be a Mother and she will get to have a Mother again!
